About the Organization

Central West Farming Systems forms the platform for innovation extension and experimentation within the farming sector of our region. This enables local farmers in the 14 million hectares that we cover to undertake experimentation in their own geographical environment which varies considerably across our region.

Our principal aim is: To develop integrated whole farm management systems and other research outcomes for farming communities of Central Western NSW that maximises profitability and are ecologically sustainable.

Funding comes from the Grains Research and Development Corporation, National Landcare Program & Lachlan Catchment Management Authority

Supported by major sponsors Cornish's CASE IH, NSW Department of Primary IndustriesAWB LtdLandmark & GrainCorp. CWFS works in conjunction with NSW Department of Primary Industries and local Agronomists.

CWFS had its beginnings in May, 1997 and now has approximately 300 members.

CWFS has two research strands: Eleven Regional Sites and a large scale Systems Comparison trial based at Condobolin ARAS.

Management and Staff

CWFS staff are overseen by an executive committee elected by members for a period of 1 year. They are responsible for the vision and planning plus major financial and research decisions of the organisation. They provide management input from a practical grower perspective and liaison within the community and also have representatives from collaboration partners NSW Department of Primary Industries, Lachlan Catchment Management Authority and Walkers AgNVet. The executive committee meet regularly during the year to review the progress of the various operations and formalise the decision making process.
