The Ungarie Regional Site is operated in association with the local Branch of NSW Farmers Association. The committee is:
Chairmen: Graeme Mason 02 6975 9048
Co-ordinator: Brad Davis 02 6895 1050
District Agronomist: 02 6895 1012
Co-operators: G. D & B.F Mason “Westcourt”
The average climatic conditions for the Ungarie Regional Site, from the Bureau of Meteorology at CONDOBOLIN AG RESEARCH STN, can be seen in Figure 1 and 2. Figure 1 reveals that the average annual rainfall for Ungarie is 466.1 mm, whilst Figure 2 reveals the maximum and minimum monthly temperatures.

The research agenda for 2006
- Mustard/Canola Variety Trial (CWFS)
- Vetch Grain Production Trial (CWFS)
- Chickpea Variety Lines Trial - Disease Resistant (CWFS)
The research agenda in the past
1999
- Nitrogen and its effect on wheat germination at Ungarie and Alectown - the trial was conducted to investigate the effects of a range of nitrogen fertiliser products on the release of ammonia and seedling mortality. In this trial there was a strong linear relationship between the amount of nitrogen applied and a decreased germination and crop establishment. Germination losses, however, were compensated for by increased tiller numbers at Ungarie
2000
- Nitrogen may pay, but don't forget your phosphorus - the aim of this trial was to quantify a state wide yield increase in wheat and canola by the addition of extra phosphorus. This trial demonstrated that current P application may be sub optimal, and significant yield gains may be achieved by applying greater amounts of P. The P rates used in the trial were 0, 10, 20 and 40 kg P/ha
2002
- The Ungarie regional site was not active in 2002 because of the drought.
2003
- Vetch variety evaluation - this trial compared the nutritional value of commercial vetch varieties with breeding lines from South Australia Research and Development Institute (SARDI), in SA. The Ungarie Regional Site group would like to thank Rade Matic and Stuart Nagel for providing them with the opportunity to work with their breeding lines. To view the results from this trial please go to the 2003-2004 Annual Research Compendium paper.
- Ungarie vetch variety trial.
2004
- Pasture evaluation - this trial is to be conducted in association with Col Lamrock at Auswest Seeds in Forbes.
- Amelioration of soil acidity - this trial aims to investigate the use of lime to ameliorate soil acidity. The trial will investigate different rates of lime, their impact of yield and the cost of production.
